about ata PRESIDENT

Mr. Najmuddin Safi was born on the 1st of October 1973 in District 2 of Kabul City. Mr. Safi entered the world of Martial Arts through practicing Karate in Kabul University in 1985. In 1986, he began training in Taekwon-Do in Asia Taekwon-Do School and received his first training sessions from honorable Al-Haj Mohammad Homayoon Mohammad Zada. Mr. Safi obtained his Yellow Belt from honorable Mr. Adbul Habib Mayar prior to his departure from Afghanistan.

From 1989 to 1992 Mr. Safi worked as Assistant Instructor for Asia Taekwon-Do School.

In 1992, after obtaining the 1st Degree Black-Belt, Mr. Safi opened his first ITF Taekwon-Do school in Qalai Najarhai Khair Khana, District 11 of Kabul City.

From 1993 to January 2006, Mr. Safi served as the Senior Vice President of All Afghanistan National Taekwon-Do Association (ANTA). It is worth mentioning that in the absence of the President of ANTA, from 1994 to 2004, Mr. Safi with the tireless assistance of Mr. Karimbakhsh Walizada and Mr. Jawid Roshan managed to run ANTA in Afghanistan very successfully.

Mr. Safi undertook numerous trips to different and remote provinces of Afghanistan for introducing and spreading of Taekwno-Do. He conducted different training sessions and seminars for Taekwon-Do instructors and students.

Mr. Safi with the assistance of Mr. Walizada and Mr. Roshan could organize several Taekwno-Do demonstrations, even during very harsh time of Taleban.

During the years of war and internal conflicts in Afghanistan, Afghan ITF practitioners were deprived of having access to the internet and/or to the foreign countries where there were ITF practitioners. They were quite marginalized from the rest of the ITF family in the world. Also the majority of Afghan ITF practitioners were unable to read or communicate in the English language. Mr. Safi, taking all above points into consideration, came up with a creative idea and began to compile/ translate a Taekwon-Do manual in the local language. Finally after three years of hard work, in 2004 Mr. Safi, with the financial support of the South Korean Embassy in Kabul, managed to publish the first Taekwon-Do manual in local language and put it at the disposal of Afghan ITF practitioners. It has to be noted that this is the first ITF manual published in the region.

The manual covers the paterns up to 1st Degree Black-Belt. It provides adequate information about, the founder of Taekwon-Do, Late General Choi Hong Hi, the history of ITF, the philosophy of Taekwon-Do, the tenets of Taekwon-Do, the theory of power, the interpretation of the patterns, the meaning of the colors of the Taekwon-Do belts, the students’ oath and many more topics.

From 2003 till now Mr. Safi has been working as Taekwon-Do Instructor & Technical Advisor for the Afghan Youth Union’s Sports Department. He has organized several Taekwon-Do demonstrations in different national occasions.

In April 2004, Mr. Safi after attending the ITF seminar and upgrading examination, conducted by Grand Master Park Jong Soo, in Karachi of Pakistan, obtained his IV Degree ITF Black-Belt from the International Taekwon-Do Federation.

In January 2006, due to several unforeseen reasons, Mr. Safi and ANTA’s Senior Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents, decided to boycott with ANTA and found a new broad based association with a very clear vision.

On the 2nd of January 2006, Mr. Safi with the generous support and kind collaboration of Al-Haj Mohammad Homayoon Mohammad Zada, Mr. Karimbakhsh Walizada, Mr. Jawid Roshan and Mr. Sarajuddin Safi established the Afghan Taekwon-Do Association (ATA) in Kabul-Afghanistan.

In April 2007, Mr. Safi after attending the grading conducted by Master Trevor Nicholls and Master James Hogan in Kabul, Afghanistan, obtained the V Degree Black-Belt from the International Taekwon-Do Federation.
